LE PETIT POUCET
LAYOUT
Illustration and layout of a children’s tale
School project
Year:
2022
This project, part of my graphic design training, consisted in creating a layout for Charles Perrault's children's story Le Petit Poucet using Gustave Doré's 19th-century engravings.
As the story is quite dramatic, illustrated with somber engravings, I wanted to bring joy and colour to my layout. To achieve a reassuring look for a young audience, I cut out certain elements of the engravings and assembled them with simple, colourful shapes. This creates several levels of observation and makes the book suitable for children of different ages. Certain words or onomatopoeia are highlighted to help children grasp the text when read by an adult.
