Madeleine Delbrêl was a 20th-century poet, social worker and Church woman who strived to live according to the Gospel by serving the poor and working-class population of Ivry-sur-Seine in the 1930s, without intentions of converting her beneficiaries. The conference Partir vers ce qui arrive, celebrating the 100th anniversary of her conversion, asked me to design a logo, an information flyer, and a poster.
The logo is based on a well-known image of Madeleine Delbrêl, kneeling beside a little girl and her spinning toy. I used the outlines of the two figures in the photo to form Madeleine’s initial letters, M and D. The name of the conference, being a quote from Madeleine Delbrêl, was written in a bold italic font.
I wanted a warm, human logo to counterbalance the often harsh black and white photos used to illustrate Madeleine.
