The Museum of Magic is a fictional museum for which I created the visual identity and a poster as part of my training. It is a place dedicated to magic, offering exhibitions, conferences and workshops to children and adults, professionals and the curious.
The challenge was to create a visual identity speaking to this mixed audience, evoking both seriousness and entertainment. I thus had to avoid the habitual visual representations of the world of magic: hats, rabbits and wands, as this would not have been representative of the wide range of the venue's missions and audiences. I chose to evoke the magic, rather than represent it directly. It is present in the deep purple and mirror effect of the logo, and in the wisps of smoke behind which the letters of the poster disappear.
The use of a sans-serif font and a reduced colour palette give the whole thing a modern, serious, almost institutional feel.
